Pastor Keith asks us to consider when heaven and earth met, in the birth of Jesus, when “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” This week’s message is based on scripture found in John 1:1-14.

This is the Third Sunday of Advent – the Sunday of “Joy.”  We open with a reading of Psalm 100.

Here is a great version of “Joyful, Joyful,” to listen to for the 3rd Sunday of Advent.

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.

John 1:14
Jesus was, and is, the incarnation of God’s Living Word.
  • Hebrews 12:2
Jesus is more than a hero of our faith

Here’s one of those “distressingly theological” carols that Pastor Keith mentions in his sermon.  “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing”

Jesus is our faith
  • 1 Corinthians 1:23-24
  • 1 Corinthians 2:2
  • John 10:30
  • John 17:20-21
Christmas is a personal event
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19

Listen to this verse from “O Little Town of Bethlehem”

O holy Child of Bethlehem,
descend to us, we pray;
cast out our sin, and enter in,
be born in us today.

That’s what it takes to make Christmas real; that’s when heaven and earth meet; when the Word of God dwells in us.
