The weather is turning (slightly) cooler, it’s nearly September and the SUNY Geneseo Students are arriving on campus, and the big white tents are going up.  That can only mean one thing… well, multiple things, but here at Geneseo UMC it means it’s time for our 150 Family Yard Sale and Wellness Fair!

This special once-a-year yard sale, held on our premises at 4520 Genesee Street, Geneseo, is our premier fund-raising event each year.  This year’s event takes place on August 26th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, rain or shine.

Items have been collected year-round, and donated by church members and friends, and members of the community.  There’s something for everyone, and you can’t beat our prices!

Inside you’ll find:

• small appliances
• records, tapes, CDs, and DVDs
• clothing (teen-adult)
• shoes, belts, and purses
• jewelry
• hardcover and paperback books
• baked goods (come early, they go fast!)

Outside under the huge tents:

• bedding & yard goods
• tools & outdoor items
• children’s clothes
• toys and games
• knick-knacks and collectables
• Christmas and holidays
• crafts of all kinds
• household – kitchen items, lamps, pictures
• furniture

If you’re really looking for a bargain, come at 2:00 pm for our Bag Sale.  We’ll sell you a bag for $1.00 and everything you can fit in it is yours!

Ten percent of the proceeds go directly to our mission partners, with the remainder supporting the mission and ministry of the Geneseo United Methodist Church.  But even better, while this is a fund-raising event for us, it’s also a wonderful community outreach and fellowship event.  We are able to help many underprivileged families with clothing, school supplies, and even a special something from the toys and games tent.  We regularly hear that “this is the best yard sale around,” and have people returning every year from as far away as the Buffalo and Syracuse areas!

While you’re at the yard sale, you can also take advantage of the annual Health and Wellness Fair, presented by the Geneseo Parish Health Ministry Team, from 9:00 am – Noon in the Fellowship Hall.  They will provide several free services which include blood pressure checks, body fat analysis, hearing and dental screenings, posture analysis and information on local health services.
