A view of a calm sea and blue sky with "Jesus Calms the Storm," Luke 8:25

Jesus Calms the Storm

April 9, 2024

As part of my morning devotion I have slowly been watching “The Chosen” series.  I couldn’t help but be in awe as I watched Jesus walking across the stormy sea to his disciples in the 8th episode in the 3rd series.  His all-encompassing control in the storm brought the disciples the strength they needed.  Their fear was overcome with awe as they experienced Jesus power in their predicament.

We need to turn to Jesus to give us this kind of strength in the storms of life.  And because Jesus gives us hope in the midst of a storm, we are persons filled with Hope.  Having come through a mild winter, but finding winter hanging on in the unusual storms in March, we are never sure of the weather.  But we can count on Jesus to always be there to calm the storm to make our way secure.

Psalm 18 tells us, 30 “As for God, God’s way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; and shields all who take refuge in him.  31 For who is God besides the Lord: and who is the Rock except our God? 32 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.”

As we move forward with the uncertainty of what changes we may be facing in our denomination, let us never be uncertain that Jesus loves us, and trust he will calm the storm.  That is why we can claim the name “Easter People!” It is in this spirit of hope we move forward sharing the love of Christ with a world that is tired and worn.

It is through Christ we are a hope-filled people who welcome the beauty of the earth as it wakes from its winter slumber.  As we celebrate the beauty of creation all around us let us also celebrate our faith through Jesus Christ.

With hope for many blessings,

Pastor Beth
