I Am Knocking
If you know me at all, you might find it hard to believe that one of my favorite scriptures comes from the book of Revelation. Yup that’s right!
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 3:20
I first came across this scripture years ago, before I went into ministry. I was attending the Rush UMC with my husband and young family; my mom was the pastor of the Rush church. I guess the reason it stood out to me was because I could actually picture Jesus standing on the other side of my front door, knocking. And I had to decide whether I wanted to, first of all, answer his knock, and secondly, let him in to my house, my life, and my world. Well you can guess what I decided to do… let him in!
And my life, and the life of my family, has never been the same. I cannot tell you how excited I am while I am writing this to be part of Jesus’ world, the church and my life as your pastor. I am also feeling really blessed to be part of all that is happening at Geneseo United Methodist Church. No matter what happens in the world around us, God is God this… this being the big beautiful, amazing, and sometime really scary world in which we live.
As creation wakes up from its slumber and we stretch out our limbs from a strange winter’s sleep, may we keep in mind that God is Good, and has good plans for God’s church. So, as God is standing outside and knocking once again to be let in our hearts, homes, church, and communities. LET GOD IN!
With love and blessings,
Pastor Beth
