Are You Missing Compassion?
I have to admit that I am excited that the movie, “The Devil Wears Prada II” is about to come out. As most of you know I am smitten when it comes to fashion. But you probably don’t know that my first attempt at higher education was in the Fashion Merchandising program at Genesee Community College. It didn’t take long for it to become clear that this was not the place that God created me for. Ah but a girl can dream…I still love fashion, but at a Goodwill price.
There was an important part that was missing in my program at GCC — compassion! I have a yearning for the kind of compassion that Jesus offered and taught his disciples to live out. The kind of compassion that the whole world is in need of right now, of loving neighbor, and taking care of creation in the radical way that God invites us to.
We are reminded to do this in Paul’s letter to the Colossian church
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12
I want, more than any outfit, to be clothed with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Soon we’ll be putting on our Easter’s best, perhaps we have moved away from the formality of Easter hats and gloves, suits and ties, but as we move closer to becoming Easter People we can put on our very best as God’s chosen. Let us be filled with goodness and grace, offering the world a different perspective to work towards.
May we as disciples of Christ give thanks for the new life he offers.
I pray you find ways to live out being Easter People this and every month.
With Blessings,
Pastor Beth
